Saturday night was clearly...

...the Battle of Who Could Care Less.

5 field goals.

Wow.

I totally apologize

Obviously I know nothing about FSU Football. We take the time to prepare for what would be the biggest game of the year for these kids/coaches and what happened...we laid a goose-egg. Sure we scored 3 points, but hell...3 might as well been nothing.

I saw players that had completely reverted back to Jeff Bowden's FSU team. Poor decisions and letting Wake get the better of them for stupid penalties.

I'm not going into the game, but let me say this...if we don't get it fixed this week we might be lucky to win 5 games this year.

Later peeps...

Unfortunately...

...this all assumes a pass rush against a veteran Wake Forest team this Saturday.

One can dream.

Or one can drown one's sorrows in a schooner filled with Abita Amber on Saturday night.

Time will tell, I suppose.

Grade Book - Football Team

Hi..

Yes, my name is Toker and I'll be posting on this blog about FSU Football and other things Tallahassee. You may know me from my blog or from my FSU Marching Chief Alumni Group in Facebook (shameful plugs I know). I've been in Tallahassee since 1986 so I can tell you pretty much everything FSU Football I can tell you about...from my first football game as Marching Chief (FSU played the Toledo Rockets) to last week's game versus UT-Chattanooga.

Every year brings me the eternal hope that we're going to be something special. I have to admit this year could be it. Granted, our last two opponents haven't been of ACC caliber, but I look at it as the chance for the team to learn how to work together and to build up to our conference..and hey..if the University of Florida can get away for it the past 10 years or so..why can't we??

Anyway..today I'm going to grade the major positions after our first 2 games and talk about where we can improve:

QB: B
  • The kids are taking direction from Jimbo very well and starting to get the nerves out of playing in front of a crowd. Of course they are making Freshman mistakes but you can tell that Jimbo is working with them on the sidelines and they are learning. It's something I haven't seen from our coaching staff in quite sometime.
RB: B+
  • Dexter Carter has done a great job on working with our running backs during last year and in the spring and off season and it's showing. The "sandpit" drills that Dex had them work on extra conditioning is paying off on the field. Antonie Smith is starting to look like the RB we wanted out of high school and Jermaine Thomas is a SUPER freshman that has tremendous upside. I look for his future here at FSU to be very bright.
WR: B
  • Lawrence Dawsey has basically taken a bunch of misfits and seriously worked in this group into possibly..and I'm talking by the end of the year..some of the best WRs in the country. Greg Carr has decided to take more responsibility and it shows on the field. Corey Surrency is living up to the hype the coaches and players have talked about. Even receivers Bert Reed, Richard Goodman and Rod Owens have stepped up and learned that being a WR isn't all about running a route and they're making key blocks to help their team...and guess what...Preston Parker comes back this week...I pray for our opponents because he has something to prove.
Offensive Line: C+
  • Rick Trickett has had a lot to do with retooling a line that can help an offense that Jimbo wants to implement and the kids are getting better. We had at least 2 freshman All Americans and it looks like we could have another in Zebrie Sanders. They are getting better every week but the competition gets tougher starting this week. I think they will be up to the task.
Defensive Line: C+
  • Jody Allen and Odell Haggins have done a great job working with the line. They are getting good push on the 2 offenses we've faced and as I said the competition gets tougher. Everette Brown is the stud of the group and he WILL be playing on Sundays. Bud Thacker will be back this week to shore up the line. If he was playing I would have probably graded them out at B.
Linebackers: C
  • In Chuck Amato's short time back he's done some really good things with our young core of linebackers. Headed up by Derek Nicholson and Todrick Verdell we have a solid group that giving QBs fits and disrupting WRs on their routes.
Defensive Backs: B-
  • As always Mickey Andrews has a solid group of guys playing Safety and Corner. This year you can tell he's starting to let the guys play more one on one coverage than zone but as the teams get tougher we'll see how much he pulls them back in. I think Tony Carter is one of the most solids players in the backfield we've had in a long time and also his threat as a kick/punt returner just gives FSU some respect again in that position.
Let me know what you think as I always love discussion about football. Either on Wednesdays or Thursdays I'll be talking about our upcoming foe. I look forward to writing more..and I hope you enjoy it as well.

Until then....
Peace, Love and Thick Burgers!!!
